Charlotte Commons is a newly-constructed 35-unit apartment building that offers 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments in the Como neighborhood, near the University of Minnesota campus, with easy access to downtown Minneapolis and major freeways

The building was developed as part of a unique reuse project to convert the site of an historic grain elevator into a mixed-income housing community.

In 2006, Project for Pride in Living partnered with Habitat for Humanity and Cabrini Partnership to create a community that would both preserve this historic landmark and provide new and much needed housing in the area.

Construction on additional rental apartments and townhomes is scheduled to begin in 2009. The historic grain elevator will eventually be converted into homeownership condos.

Originally constructed in 1936, the Bunge Grain Elevator symbolizes the role Minneapolis played in our nation's agricultural history and is the structure that cemented our position as the Grain Capitol of the World.

Charlotte Commons is named in honor of Charlotte Ouisconson Van Cleve, Minnesota pioneer, women's rights activist, abolitionist, and author.
