Van Cleve Development Wins Best in Real Estate Award
(April 18, 2008) Minneapolis—The Van Cleve Development received a Best in Real Estate award from the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal in Multifamily Development/Redevelopment-small. The Van Cleve Development is the product of a partnership between two local agencies, Project for Pride in Living (PPL) and Cabrini Partnership, who share a vision of creating new housing opportunities while positively impacting communities. The architecture firm for the Van Cleve Development is UrbanWorks (www.Urban-Works.com).
The article also commended efforts to involve the community. The developers communicated with neighbors to see what they wanted out of the area.
“We are delighted that the Van Cleve Development has received such positive feedback from the community and through this award,” said Mary Morris, executive director at Cabrini Partnership.

The demolition process began in May and will be completed in June. The debris will be attended to, reused (some onsite) or removed from the premises in the coming weeks.
Bunge Housing Financing Supported
(June 11, 2007)—Bill Hoffman of The Bridge recently reported on the Southeast Como Improvement Association (SECIA) board meeting in an article titled “Bunge Housing Financing Supported.”
Ward 2 City Councilmember Cam Gordon reported that the City Council voted unanimously on May 25 to support the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) plan for development of the Bunge Midway grain elevator site for mixed-income housing. Gordon said the council supported the financing plan in part due to a letter of support for the plan to the council by the SECIA board.
In May, Gordon reported to the board that there were not enough votes on a council committee to support the project’s TIF. He said some committee members had concerns about using tax financing for a project that includes market-rate housing in a “non-impacted” neighborhood.
Groundbreaking Scheduled for September 2007
(May 17, 2007)—The groundbreaking ceremony for the Van Cleve Development is in preliminary planning phases. A specific date has not been set. The partners behind the project encourage the Como neighborhood to participate in the event.

The Bridge Article on Redevelopment
(March 26, 2007)—Linda Lincoln of The Bridge recently wrote an article on the Van Cleve Development titled “Bunge Tower redevelopment to begin this month.”
Excerpt:
“The building boom that has brought so many new residents and businesses into other Southeast neighborhoods is about to move into Como with the start of work on the Van Cleve project, also known as the Bunge Tower redevelopment project.
“On March 28, Project for Pride in Living, Inc. (PPL) will host a meeting at Van Cleve Community Center, starting at 6:30 p.m., about the impact on neighbors from the upcoming Bunge site demolition. The work, which will begin this month, could include noise, some vibration, dust, and the closing of an alley for as long as two weeks, said Chris Wilson, PPL development director. PPL will ‘try to minimize [the impact] as much as we can,’ he said. The demolition should be finished this spring, he said, ‘hopefully before [the weather] gets too nice.’”
