Proud to Be Involved
The Van Cleve Development is the product of a partnership between two local agencies, Project for Pride in Living (PPL) and Cabrini Partnership, who share a vision of creating new housing opportunities while positively impacting communities. To develop Van Cleve, members met with neighborhood groups to ensure that what got built was more than individual units, it was an addition of new life to a great existing community.
Project for Pride in Living, Inc. Inc. (PPL)
PPL is the developer and, once completed, will continue its relationship with the project as manager of the rental properties.
Founded in 1972, PPL is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping lower-income families develop the tools they need to achieve self-sufficiency. PPL’s earliest activities were devoted to increasing the supply of affordable, quality housing as a stabilizing force in the inner city neighborhoods of Minneapolis. For more information, visit www.ppl-inc.org.
PPL’s mission is to assist lower-income individuals and families to work toward self-sufficiency by providing housing, jobs and training. PPL creates opportunities for growth through several integrated programs:
- Affordable housing—rental and ownership
- Jobs and employment readiness training
- Personal and community support services
- Youth development
Cabrini Partnership
Of the 236 units in The Van Cleve Development, 20 of them are designated for Cabrini Partnership residents, and Cabrini will provide support services for them on-site.
Cabrini Partnership, founded in 1985, is a nonprofit organization licensed by Hennepin County. Its mission is to provide housing and services to support homeless adults with mental illness and chemical dependency to strengthen their lives, families and community. We help these individuals:
Ø Achieve housing stability
Ø Improve employability
Ø Increase income from employment
Ø Regain independent living skills
Ø Reunite with their families
Ø Maintain stable mental health and
Ø Sustain sobriety.
Cabrini operates two programs. Its transitional housing program, which stabilizes dually diagnosed adults in a community setting, is located in the SE Como neighborhood. Its permanent supportive housing program makes available affordable, one-bedroom apartments to people with a history of chronic mental illness and chemical dependency who are long term homeless. For additional information, visit www.cabrinipartnership.org.
The desire to serve more of those who are dually-diagnosed, long-term homeless by expanding the permanent supportive housing program led to the partnership with PPL to purchase the Bunge Tower site and plan the Van Cleve Development.
